You CAN prevent burnout from happening

Hey friend,

I launched a program called Developer to Leader ↗️ early this year.

Developer to Leader is an online program with a course and a community that teaches you how to become a successful engineering leader.

In a recent conversation in Developer to Leader community, a member shared their experience with burnout, and it sparked a thoughtful discussion on strategies and insights to avoid it.

Overall, we discussed that you CAN prevent burnout from happening, it is possible.

Hence, today, while the rest of the world focuses on goals and OKR's, lets discuss more on burnout as it can creep in and some strategies to prevent it.

So, What are some ways we can detect burnout and prevent it, and what to do when it happens?

Here are a few takeaways from that conversation for you.

The conversation touched on the pitfalls of setting unrealistic goals. Goals that depend on external factors, such as salary increases or promotions, were deemed less fulfilling.

Instead, focusing on goals inspired by personal growth and impact was recommended.

As we navigate the beginning of the year, it's a great time to set realistic goals, prioritize internal motivation, and celebrate both measurable and non-measurable successes.
